This is fiction, but I imagine some ideas that could cross the brain of the Rio Tinto's australian negociators at Torre de Moncorvo iron mine:
- They have an iron mine closed? They could process and store the metal steel waiting for rising prices
- What?! They had a railway between Pocinho and Moncorvo and they replaced it by a 10 km bike lane!?
- And they want to close a lot of lines with less passengers like the line of the river Douro? So beautiful places...so worthy for tourists. Very interesting, the steam trains museum at Pocinho. But three and a half hour between Porto and Pocinho it is too much, they need renewal
- They have a lack of population and industry in Tras os Montes, how sad... and to build new railroads is expensive...
- May be, now, they could renew the line between Pocinho and Leixões and build a new line between Pocinho and Moncorvo (150 km - 1500 M€, I don't know if it will be enough, the renewal could be expensive, with new viaducts, straight stretchs and double track at some places)
- or a new line between Pocinho/Moncorvo and connection, serving Bragança and Miranda, to the new line Vigo-Orense-Zamora-Madrid (100km -1500 M€); spaniards will deal with the goods
- or a new line Moncorvo/Pocinho and connection to the new line Salamanca-Valadolid-Irun (130 km - 1600 M€); also spaniards will do the job with the goods
- But they are a strange people, the portuguese; it is difficult to understand how they take decisions, and why; very, very...
